The Black Skull operates as a charge-based resurrection artifact. When pets die while the skull is in inventory, it accumulates charges (1 per pet death). When it reaches 10 charges, it becomes awakened and gains the ability to resurrect pets at the cost of 10 charges per resurrection. When charges drop to 0, it returns to dormant state and continues accumulating charges from pet deaths.

According to the game's string resources: “A small obsidian skull. It was the source of the Necropolis powers, but after the Lich's defet it seems to have lost all it's powers. However, when you hold it in your hands a strange thought crosses your mind: \” It hungers \“.”
