Town Features
The Town is the starting area of Remixed Dungeon where players can prepare for their dungeon expedition. It contains various buildings and services that aid the adventurer. The town acts as a safe zone before descending into the dungeon.
Overview
The Town serves as the safe starting area where players can:
- Purchase equipment and supplies from the Shop
- Rest and recover at the Inn
- Learn about the dungeon at the Library
- Be entertained at the Cinema
- Encounter various townspeople and guards
Buildings in Town
Based on the level configuration, the Town features various locations as indicated by the signs:
- Shop - Equipment and supplies
- Standard shop for purchasing items
- Sells weapons, armor, potions, scrolls, and other equipment
- Runs on a separate level: Town Shop Level
- Inn - Rest and recovery
- Provides a safe place to rest
- Allows for full healing and restoration
- Currently, the Inn exists as a sign but isn't implemented as a functional building
- Library - Source of knowledge
- Contains information about the dungeon
- Currently, the Library exists as a sign but isn't implemented as a functional building
- Cinema - Entertainment area
- Special entertainment area referenced in dialogues
- Townsfolk reference “special service” provided by the cinema
- Mentions “exotic thing called the 'Internet'”

Town NPCs
The Town is populated by various NPCs:
- TownGuardNPC - Town guards
- Provides security in the town
- Messages include: “Move along.”, “Thanks to adventurers like you, it became really peaceful up here.”
- Also mentions: “You think there are too many guards in this town? Well, that's because this is the only town with a gigantic monster-infested dungeon, isn't it?”
- TownsfolkNPC - Townspeople
- Regular townspeople with random messages
- Messages include: “Hmph!”, “…”, “Hmmm…”, “Hmph!”
- TownsfolkSilentNPC - Silent townspeople
- Quiet townspeople with minimal dialogue
- Messages include: “Hmph!”, “…”, “Hmmm…”
- TownsfolkMovieNPC - Movie theater patrons
- References the cinema's special service
- Says: “Do you know about that special service the \”movie theater\“ provides? Too bad they ask for some exotic thing called the \”Internet\“, I never even heard about such a thing.”
- TownShopkeeper - Shop vendors
- Sells equipment and supplies on the separate Town Shop Level
Advantages of Town
- Safety: No dangerous monsters that attack players
- Preparation: Opportunity to prepare for dungeon descent
- Services: Access to shops for equipment and supplies
- Information: NPC dialogues provide background lore
- Challenge Interaction: Affected by the NO_TOWN challenge which forbids the TownPortal spell
Related Challenges
- NO_TOWN challenge - When enabled, this challenge prevents the use of Town Portal spells, making it impossible to return to town after entering the dungeon.
Notes
- Players can return to town using the Town Portal spell
- The Town Portal spell is specifically forbidden when the NO_TOWN challenge is enabled
- The Town Portal spell cannot be used on boss levels
- Most buildings exist as locations in the game files but may not have functional interiors
- The town is based on the tileset: tiles_town_outside_winter.png
